I got a new camera. It is very similar to my old one but so many great upgraded features that I am still learning about. I really wanted to go on a photo walk today to try it out but instead decided to stick to the backyard and my favorite subjects.
Grammy made Audrey this poodle. Aud has named her "Pinky Pie".
Simon and Gibby LOVE to go into Audrey's room with her. She reads to them and dresses them up. They will sit outside her door until she opens up and lets them in. Yesterday they both got a little more than they expected. A haircut. I didn't realize that she was playing "Audrey's Beauty Salon". We have all visited said Salon many times. She has quite the set up. You can get your hair done, make up, manicure, etc. Evan actually enjoys visiting on her Spa Days. Well, yesterday Simon and Gibby got a haircut at the Salon. We have been through the cutting her own hair and cutting her doll's hair. She knows that isn't allowed. When I asked her why she thought it was okay to cut Simon's hair, she said "You told me I can't cut people's hair and doll's hair. Simon isn't a people or a doll". So, I have now added animals to the list of hair she can not cut.
My nephew Aaron's band, Sinthetik Insephsun, had as how last night as part of the Wintour 2012. They did a great job. Evan was thrilled to be able to go to his first real concert but kept asking "I'm I allowed to be here" when he saw all the crazy dancing and stuff that goes on at heavy metal shows. It was a good time.
The kids did their valentines for school. Then we baked some heart shaped sugar cookies for some of their friends and teachers.
Evan is Star of the Week this week at school. Every child gets to be star for one week out of the school year. By alphabetical order, this week is Evan's week. He loves making these posters and choosing pictures to put on them. I like to see what he comes up with too. When you are star of the week, you have to present your poster and tell about each picture, what it means and why you chose it to share.
When I went into the classroom to help yesterday the teacher pulled me aside and told me how well Evan does with his presentations (again, he is his father's son). She also told me that when he first started his presentation he said "As you will see from my presentation, my mom is an awesome photographer. I am so proud to show off her pictures." The teacher said she told him that she was very proud of him for taking the time to say such a wonderful thing and he said "well, its true". Her telling me that actually choked me up and I couldn't speak for a minute. She just patted me on the shoulder and said "he's got a big heart". That is one of the things I hear about Evan over and over and it makes me very proud.
Our backyard is usually always a battlefield, especially when Con-man Connor is over. The boys are so good about letting Audrey play. Well, she gets the esteemed job of picking up their bullets for them. Smart those two! And of course Audrey has on her best army uniform to participate. Gibby was doing his usual training while poor Simon had to look from inside. He is in week four of recovery and doing great.
Evan and John volunteered at a shooting benefit for soldiers called "Operation Enduring Gratitude" out at John's hunt club, Beaver Pond. Evan had such a great time, even in the rain. He made friends (yes, he is his father's son) and also helped out. The guys enjoyed having him around and gave him a few shooting pointers.
Can't forget Audrey. Here are a few randoms of her over the last week.
Hard to believe Evan is halfway through the third grade. Last week ended the 2nd quarter and we were pleased to get invited to the Honors Assembly to see Evan be recognized for the All A Honor Roll for third grade.
Audrey also had a big time doing her "All About Me" poster for her pre-k class. She did this all by herself (including spelling!!) except for Greensboro. She is a freakin genius!
